Download Songs From the Store

So I came across this article and thought it was a pretty cool idea. But I figure that if you’re going to buy music at physical stores, instead of online, then it would be a good idea to completely skip the physical media and directly download the music to your music player of choice.
You go to the store, buy your music, plug in your music player, and the music gets put directly on your music player.
What do you think of this?

I guess it would work at places like Best Buy and Wal-Mart where consumers are already at spending money on other things they don’t need. I definitely don’t see it working as a stand-alone store in the spirit of music only stores like Sam Goody or CD Warehouse. I have a Zune which I’ve had for a year, but just recently started making good use of. With their most recent update they rolled out, where you can: buy music directly from the store on the device, listen to the radio from your device and flag songs you hear to be purchased and added to your library, all of which make use of their $15 month unlimited downloads program.
But it’s good to see corporate giants like Wal-Mart begin to start embracing the digital climate of music nowadays. Start with the consumers, then you get the retailers, then after that become the one’s who make/distribute the product. Things like this mean we are on our way for the big corporate labels and musicians to understand…you’re not in Kansas anymore, the old music business model is dead (possibly hip hop killed it, but that’s a separate rant); adapt, evolve, break ground.
